Long-Term Care Insurance is Necessary

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

There is a perfect storm brewing in long-term care. Most of those at risk are either oblivious to it, in denial that it will not happen to them or procrastinating thinking they have lots of time to act.

The truth of the matter is taking responsibility for your long-term care sooner than later will give you options that you may not have later on. Your options will disappear as you get older and with that you won’t be as healthy.

The truth of the matter is that people are living longer and as there is a growing need for long-term care. The resources for providing this type of care are shrinking. There will be more “baby boomers” needing this type of care than there will be caregivers ready and able to provide care.

The public is not aware that Medicare isn’t a solution to the long-term care problem in America. According to Medicare & You 2010, Medicare only pays for medically-necessary skilled nursing facility or home health care if you meet certain conditions. Long-term care can be provided at home, in the community, in assisted living, or in a nursing home. A skilled nursing facility is covered only after a 3-day minimum inpatient hospital stay for a related illness or injury. Medicare doesn’t cover long-term care or custodial care in this setting. “Medicaid is a joint Federal and state program that helps pay medical costs if you have limited income and resources and meet other eligibility requirements.”

Many people have put off getting long-term care insurance because they believe they will be provided benefits through the government. Perhaps, they also do not completely understand the benefits of long-term care insurance.

It is important to educate yourself on what long-term care insurance can do for you and your family. How does it fit in with your overall retirement plan? It is designed with a specific purpose in mind.

Long-term care insurance helps you pay for services that other health insurances do not cover.

In the event you become unable to care for yourself, this insurance will take care of all of the mandatory costs to get you the help that you need. It pays for home care givers, home nurses, specialists, etc. It will even pay for care in facilities like: nursing homes and Alzheimer facilities. It will help to pay for hospice care and respite care as well.

This is a great additional insurance to have. You will be able to have reassurance by knowing that in the event you need this type of care, irrespective of what your age is, that all the costs will be covered and you will be ready to receive satisfactory care. Believe it or not, the large portion of those who need this kind of care are between the ages of18 and 64 (working age people). That just goes to show you that even younger folks need this insurance and that it isn’t necessarily for the older generation.

How Do Thieves Steal Your Identity?

Friday, February 26th, 2010

When we discuss about identity theft prevention, most people normally think about some irresponsible criminals who steal other people’s identity when non-internet savvy users are being careless and not aware of internet phishing and scams. You might be thinking that they are not familiar with online frauds and they are purely unaware of the risk of privacy invasion.

These particular white collar crimes are meant for extreme cautious people. In fact, professionals like doctors, lawyers, accountants can be easily lured to internet scams that enable highly intellectual criminals to obtain their personal information within less than a day.

But the main question is how thieves able to steal other people’s identities?

Wallets and handbags that contain credit cards are the most common factor of causing identity thefts. These items can easily be a target for such crimes. On the other hand, your mail is another factor that can be targeted by criminals to obtain your bank statements, tax information and approved credit card offers. In addition, they can also use checks to trace your bank account information – this explains why your account balance is decreasing over period of time.

If they steal your important personal information from your mail, then they will most likely change the address so that the mail can reach to the other location. Your unsettled rubbishes can also provide much personal information to the criminals like social numbers, credit card numbers and bank account details.

Certainly, internet is a perfect place to accumulate your private data so you must always be aware of anyone requesting your personal information for any services and offers from web sites or business emails.

Life Without Internet, Could We?

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

All this speculation on life without the Internet is rather interesting for the fact that who would be reading these article other than those with the Internet. Of course things get done that would otherwise be left because of surfing the world wide web, but things got left when television was the main source of family entertainment, and in fact is still predicted to be the cause of the end of the world because of the proliferation of the couch potato.

Or is that the gaming junkie with his X Box, Playstation or the current favorite the Wii. The Internet is another convenient scapegoat for all that is wrong with society, but a society that would be lost without the Internet.
As far as I am aware there are those that still tinker with cars, or any mechanical device that needs servicing. There are those that have gardens so good they show them off to anyone who will pay a small fee to charity for the pleasure, but now have the Internet to research on anything they wish.

I do recall a programme, a few years ago, when a family was asked to do without their television for a week, and pursue other forms of entertaining themselves. All went well for the first 3 days, the family did things together, indoors and outdoors, but then all this ‘quality time’ began to grate as programmes were missed and a kind of cold turkey set in. By the end of the week the family nearly knocked each other over to get back to the television and their programmes. People were horrified at this reaction, I didn’t seen anything wrong with it myself. To me it was no different to asking a football (soccer in the USA) fan to miss going to see his favorite team play, or the guy, or woman who liked going down the pub, we all have our little things in life we love to do, many of us surf the web.

I am well aware this is only a speculation, and I don’t think any of the writers of this subject are going to cancel their ISP subscription (please correct me if I’m wrong) for me I would be bereft without my world wide web, or e-mail or any of my computer passions. For as I get older I have no wish to go boozing round the pubs, I like my home comforts after I get in from work. If I want to wallow in nostalgia of some 1960’s pop culture, I go to YouTube. If I want to catch up on any TV programmes (I don’t actually) I can download them. If my grandchildren want to do their homework, (they don’t remember life without the Internet) then they are welcome.

As I write these line I realise how awful it would be without the Internet, despite all the hassle of viruses and spam, and all the other things that ail the web. Yes its interesting to speculate, I for one do not want to catch up on other things to do, if I want to do something different, like going out with my camera and photographing the countryside, I will do it. But I love to have the knowledge that I can, if I wish, share my pictures with the whole world, something I can only do with the Internet.
